Maria McCool Answers Your Dry Hair Questions

Have you ever wondered why your hair gets dry? Maybe what the signs of dry hair might be? And most importantly, have you ever wanted to get some solutions? If you suffer with hair that lacks hydration or easily dries out with weather changes, today is your day on the BeautyBrave Blog! We’re talking to Calista founder and hair expert, Maria McCool, about all things dry hair.

Q: Why does our hair get dry?

Maria: There are so many factors! Some of the major reasons are excessive heat styling, overexposure to the sun, or chemical processing damage. I’d also add that the lack of moisture in the air during winter and too much time in the ocean or pool during summer definitely dry out hair as well!

Q: How can I tell if I have dry hair?

Maria: Dry hair is generally dull and lifeless. It doesn’t perform or hold the styles you want and breaks easily. Another sign is having a lot of static in your hair from the lack of hydration.

Q: What are the negative results of having dry hair?

Maria: With dry hair, you’re not able to achieve the looks that you want like holding a curl or smoothing frizz. You’ll also notice a lot of split ends and breakage.

Q: What are some affordable solutions for dry hair? (Hacks are good too)

Maria: A great hack is to use olive oil at night and then shampoo in the morning. Some affordable product solutions are using a hydrating shampoo or a rich hair mask regularly. Most importantly, always make sure you use heat protectant before styling with hot tools!

Q: What are 3-4 ways to prevent dry hair in the first place?

Maria:

  1. Don’t overdo heat styling.
  2. Use a product that has protects hair from UV rays.
  3. Condition regularly!
  4. Use a hair mask 2-4 times per month during dry seasons.
