Who doesn’t love to add a little curl every now and then? These days, we’re flooded with visuals of young models with perfect beach waves or mature women who happen to have thick, flowing locks well into their 50s. These are often the visuals we’ve been conditioned to associate with hair that can handle a curl. However, there are so many styling hacks and simple solutions for curling short styles. From bobs to lobs to pixies, we’re giving you the guidance you need for adding curl to your super-short look.
Round Brush Curls
If you’ve read our blog about how to use the GoGo Mini Round Brush, you already know that styling with a round brush is an easy way to add volume and curls to your short hair. The key to creating curls that suit your length is ensuring you have the correct size tool. The round brush you use should have a barrel no larger than 1”. We recommend our GoGo or Perfecter Pro. Both tools feature bristles that gather the hair and help you create curls, waves, and lift in your short hair without exposing it to harsh heat from a traditional curling iron. Rollers
Rollers are a great way to add lift, definition, and volume to short styles. What’s great about this option is that you can choose whether or not you want to put heat on your hair. At Calista, we have two different types of roller sets: our Ion Hot Rollers and our Volumizing Soft-Grip Rollers. The Ion Hot Rollers come in a short set that features 6 Short Rollers (2.5" L x 1" W) and 6 Medium Rollers (2.5" L x 1.25" W). These heat up shortly and then can be placed in your hair for simple, hands-free styling. Check out our video tutorial here. When it comes to the Soft-Grip Rollers, you’re able to instill your hair with volume and lift without having to apply any heat whatsoever. Maria shows a client how to properly put in these rollers and add a styling product to set the look! Watch the video here.
Styling Products
Speaking of styling products…let’s talk creating curls with your natural texture. While this is heavily dependent on hair type (check out this blog post to see what your hair type is!), using the right styling product can highlight beautiful natural curls you may not even realize you have. Often, when hair is dried out or over-styled, it can look frizzy or overprocessed, making you want to avoid your natural texture. With a hydrating styling product that enhances your look, you might be able to take a natural wave pattern or texture and plump it up into a curl. Our favorites are Embellish Styling Cream, Stratosphere Texturizing Spray, and Embellish Texturizing Foam – but check out our whole line of styling products to see which might be right for you!
