The Dos & Don’ts of Summer Haircare

The Dos & Don’ts of Summer Haircare

You asked, we answered! Here are some of Maria’s top tips for keeping your hair healthy, strong, and stunning all Summer long.

Do:

Protect Against UV damage
This is an absolute must if you’re planning to spend time in the sun this Summer. As we all know, UV rays don’t just cause damage to your skin, they can also damage your hair. Using nourishing products that have UV protection built in or wearing a hat during sun exposure are great ways to ensure your hair doesn’t accrue damage from the sun’s harmful rays.

Deep Condition
Every season is a good season for deep conditioning, but Summer often leaves us more exposed to the elements than other times of year because of how much time we’re spending outside. Even if you condition every time you wash, a more powerful treatment that actually penetrates strands and helps hydrate and restore your hair can be a total game-changer.

Let Loose
Summer is not the time to try and force your hair to behave. Not only are you dealing with excessive heat, but humidity can completely wipe out all of the work you put in to taming your curls with a flat iron or volumizing your straight strands. The better option is to play around with fun, loose hairstyles like messy buns, fun hair accessories, or piecey side braids. After all, Summer should be fun!

Don’t:

Brush Hair When Wet
Whether you’re hopping out of the pool or taking a dip in the ocean, keep in mind that your hair is weaker when wet. While it may be tempting to brush through the tangles straight out of the pool, it can also cause more damage. Use a flexible brush on damp hair to avoid adding stress or causing breakage.

Use Excessive Heat
Much like our tip to let your hair loose this summer, this Don’t advises against over-using curling irons and straighteners in the Summer. Excessive heat can dry out hair and lead to split ends and frizz. Instead, try letting your natural style shine or use any of our heat-safe tools (they feature ionic technology that doesn’t dry out your hair!).

Over-Wash Your Hair
When you’re out in the sun and potentially sweating nearly every day, it’s easy to want to give your hair a good cleanse and condition on a daily basis. However, this can also strip your scalp of its natural oils. Instead, stick to washing your hair every 2-3 days if possible. Want to extend time between washes? Dry shampoo is an amazing option for refreshing your hair without losing those vital oils!

    Hi Cathy!
Currently, we only sell our Jousse Cleanse & Condition in 32 oz. Keep an eye out for travel sizes in the future!

    Hi Peggy!
We recommend you start with Jousse Cleanse, followed by Jousse Condition. Once you rinse both of these out, apply the Mend Masque to get an extra boost of hydration and shine. All three work together to give you healthier hair!

I would like to know after you cleanse you use the mend masque. Are you supposed to use the condition to? I bought all three and I wanted to make sure I am using them right. Thank you!

Hi would love to try your shampoo and conditioner, but my bathroom is very small and wondered if you ever considered travel sizes. Thanks
